Painter Larry Levow and ceramic artist Ann Merritt are showcased this month. Levow works in pastel and oil, capturing the light and color of the marshes of the Coastal Empire. Other subjects include the quaint streets and doorways he encounters on his yearly travels to Europe. Merritt creates hand-built figures and entire scenes that delight viewers. Clowns, Santas and country-bumpkins are among her favorite subjects. 209 E. River Street, Monday-Saturday, 10:30 am to 9 p.m., Sunday, noon-9 p.m.


Tiffany Drabek At Wright Square Cafe

Tiffany Drabek will present a selection of her ceramic tile murals at the new gourmet market, Wright Square Cafe, 21 W. York St. The exhibition will open Dec. 13 from 5-8 p.m. Deabek's hand-made sculptural tile images are inspired by Mediterranean and Tuscan themes. Drabek hand sculpts her tiles, applies her own glazes and fires them in her Savannah studio. She has been working in clay for 11 years and currently offers custom- designed tile murals, sculptures and pottery. The exhibition continues through January. The Wright Square Cafe, owned by Gary Hall and Anthony Attargi, offers a broad range of fine imported and American chocolates, freshly baked muffins, cookies and savory desserts. The cafe serves a variety of gourmet salads and sandwiches for lunchtime as well as coffees, espressos and cappuccinos. Now open at 73 Broad St. in Charleston next to the historic St. Michael's Church. The gallery features contemporary realistic and impressionistic art by local and nationally acclaimed artists. Gallery hours are Monday-Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. A grand opening will be held Dec. 7, 5-8 p.m. The featured artist in December is Karen Hewitt Hagan, a Charleston artist and one of the founding members of the Plein Air Painters of Charleston. Tybee Holiday Art And Craft Festival

St. Michael's Catholic School and Parish will host an Arts and Crafts Festival at the school Dec. 1, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Shop among a variety of artists and crafters while enjoying refreshments, music and door prizes. Gift wrapping will be available for your convenience.


New Work From Nautilus Studio

Tybee Island artist Linda Lindeborg has released five new reproductions in the last six weeks and will issue another Dec. 15 featuring the first keeper's house at Tybee. Among the other prints are two offset lithographs, "Outgoing Tide" and "Momma's Boat." Three new giclee prints in a limited edition of 12 include "Inner Light," the interior of Cockspur Lighthouse; "Riding the Tide" and "Georgia Blues," a pile of baskets and a few blue crabs thrown in for good measure. ANGEL AUCTION

The Tybee Arts Association is holding its third Annual Angel Auction at Lighthouse Gallery through Dec. 9. Members of the Arts Association have made and donated special angel items that will be displayed in the gallery for silent auction. Michael Dayan In City Market Gallery

"Color the World," a series of new work by Abraham Michael Dayan continues through December in City Market's Lobby Gallery. "I want to do something poetic after what was happening in New York," Dayan explains about his boldly colored, Cubism-inspired paintings. An opening reception will be held on First Friday for Art, Dec. 7, from 6-9 p.m. You can also see Dayan on the Internet now, www.dayanartist.com. MOONSHELL ART GALLERY

"Christmas Potpourri," an exhibition by 25 artist shows throughout the month at this Hilton Head Island gallery. The gallery's annual "art tree," a Christmas tree decorated with small paintings by the 25 artists and priced as economical gifts will also be on display. Telfair Art Fair Winners

Congratulations to winners of the seventh annual Telfair Art Fair held in early November. Best of show was awarded to Savannah painter Robert Isley; second prize went to Laura Adams, also a Savannah painter; and third place was presented to Eric Abraham of Wamego, Kan., in the craft division. Merit awards were presented to Jackson Cheatham of Thomson, Ga., Peter Loose of Hull, Ga., Lanny Webb of Athens, Ga., Georgia Rowswell of Sparks, Ga., and Tami Cardnella of Mount Pleasant, S.C.


Womens Work Gallery

New paintings and mosaics from Savannah artist Laura Di Nello and six new oils from the "Floating World Series" by Hatsue Miki of Pensacola, Fla. The gallery is welcoming new artists Audra Kohout of New Orleans who creates mixed media and figurative work under glass; and Kathrine Allen-Coleman of Jackson, Ga., who is known for her small, colorful, highly patterned still lifes. 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday. 108 E. EAST END GALLERY

Exaggerated remarquing, which draws the viewer into the coastal watercolors created by Gayle Bolton, has become a trademark for this month's featured artist and newest artist at the gallery. Her realistic approach depicts her love of the water and the coastal Lowcountry. Retired as an institutional stockbroker, she experimented with watercolors while sailing in the Caribbean. Upon relocating to Savannah last December, she studied briefly with Peggy Cone. She has also become known for her series of "cool bars" at Tybee Beach. Bolton is in the gallery every Monday. Entries are being accepted through Jan. 7, 2002, for the Hilton Head Art League's National Juried Art Exhibition. Chroma Gallery

Chroma features contem-porary art in a historic setting adjacent to City Market and shows the work of some of Savannah's finest artists - including painters, sculptors and jewelers - from the Savannah College of Art and Design community, as well as other professional artists. PhotoGraphics And Design

Photography by Paul Louis Englebaugh is highlighted in "...as time goes by..." Englebaugh turns his lens toward naturally occurring compositions in architecture and captures varied textures created by abandoned structures worn by time. THE DOLPHIN AND THE MERMAID

Annual holiday open house is Dec. 15, noon-5 p.m. Meet many of the gallery's artists. Overlooking the scenic Intercoastal Waterway in Thunderbolt, this gallery has a contemporary coastal theme, featuring the works of local artists Robert Isley, Rebecca Kahrs Willis, Kim Miller and Jo Gabeler. Also featured are fine craft pieces and glass works by Isabella Davis and Greg McDonald. OFF THE WALL

Hosts its Holiday Salon Dec. 6 from 6-9 p.m. featuring new work from Luther Vann, Zola Delburn and Rose-Marie Glen. Vann has created several new works, as well as some cut-out and dimensional pieces; Delburn continues with her popular series based on Mrs. Wilke's Boarding House - now available as Giclee prints. Glen will spotlight several new Savannah landscapes, as well as some paintings inspired by the fall foliage of Vermont.

SCAD Red Gallery

The Savannah College of Art and Design will present the exhibition "Doppelgangers," which includes work by artists well-known for their work in the entertainment industry.
