Wind-swept beaches, diverse vegetation and stunning architecture caught the eye of Mike Wozniak the first time he visited Sapelo Island, a barrier island located off the Georgia coast near Eulonia.
Wozniak was so moved, he organized a watercolor workshop there that was held in early November.
For two days, the participants, ranging in skill from beginner to professional, explored the island, visited with its residents and broadened their own repertorie of talent.
Among the workshop's highlights was a visit to the island's Spalding Mansion, an early 20th-century retreat last privately owned by tobacco magnate R.J. Reynolds. Participants toured mansion and then spent several hours photographing and creating watercolors of its exterior.
Wozniak plans other island workshops. For information, call the artist at (912) 790-1232.
