The artwork created by a group of seven diverse artists, calling themselves the "Applepie Painters," will be on exhibit in the Greer Gallery at the Arts Center of Coastal Carolinas. The artists will be on hand at an opening night reception from 5-7 p.m.
Vickie Bailey Ebbers, Peter Hadfaivi, Mary Kelly, John Norlander, Lynn Parrott, Liz Rufenacht and Barbara Snow met at a Hilton Head Art League workshop several years ago and decided to continue their enjoyment of painting together when the workshop ended. To celebrate the formalization of their new group endeavor Peter Hadfalvi brought one of his freshly baked pies to their first get-together. Prompting the group to dub themselves "Applepie Painters."
For four years, twice a month, these dedicated artists have met as a group at selected locations around the island to share their individual talents and their passion for creative expression. Each meeting eventually turns into a mini workshop for all of them as they critique each other's work in progress. Each member of the group brings to it a different perspective, a different style and a wealth of formal art training from educational institutions and renowned teachers across the country.
"I have found a 'home' here with these wonderfully talented professional painters," said John Norlander, who refers to himself as "just a retired business man who loves to paint."
Vickie Bailey Ebbers believes that, "the fellowship is invaluable to us," and Peter Hadfalvi agrees that the "joyful camaraderie" and "the fun we have together" are valuable factors in their individual development as painters.
The other members of the group echo these sentiments, each expressing some form of appreciation for the friendship and support provided by such an intimate group - and for the invaluable feedback.
During the exhibit, the artists will conduct gallery walks and painting demonstrations Saturdays at 11a.m. on Jan. 11, 18 and 25. On Jan. 11, walk-through talks about their work will be offered by John Norlander, Lynn Parrott and Liz Rufenacht. On Jan. 18, Mary Kelly will demonstrate how she creates her "self mixed acrylic paintings" while Vickie Bailey Ebbers will explain her individualized style of the "subtractive watercolor" method of painting. On Jan. 25, Barbara Snow will demonstrate her skill with pastels and Peter Hadfalvi will exhibit his highly professional technique with oil paints.
All art on display will be for sale, as well as packages of note cards depicting paintings by each of the seven artists.
