New antiques store on Liberty Street
A trio of veteran antiques dealers have banded together to form 4 West Liberty, a gallery of antiques and collectibles upstairs at the corner of Liberty and Bull streets. Tom Pierce, formerly Pierce Antiques on Jones Street, C.H. "Charlie" Brown," and John Buter offer a variety of early American and continental furniture, silver, fine art and even some 1960's collectibles. Buter, known for his array of architectural salvage objects, has assembled an impressive collection of accents and functional creations. The shop is closed Sundays and the owners expect to keep hours from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. (912) 238-3525.
Oglethorpe Row Gallery
The gallery was founded in fall 2000 by Savannah College of Art and Design graduate students Daniel Dunn and Ambler Hutchinson. A dedicated volunteer staff currently maintains Oglethorpe Row Gallery, running all aspects of the gallery, such as curating shows, hanging work, managing finances and coordinating community activities.
While the majority of volunteers are Savannah College of Art and Design students, the gallery is not affiliated with SCAD. There are currently 15 volunteers. Meetings are open to everyone, and we are always excited to have new volunteers. Starting in January the meetings will be on Thursdays at 6 p.m. at the gallery. Gallery 209
This River Street gallery is serving up "New Kids on the Block" for January, featuring recent work by the coop's newest members, Rebecca Kahrs Willis and Maureen Kerstein. Willis' work is distinguished by its detail and vivid color, and the interplay of light and shadow in intricate compositional contexts. She has developed quite a following of students seeking to hone their skills in watercolor. Willis offers a number of classes and workshops throughout 2003 in South Carolina and Georgia. Kerstein considers herself an experimental artist, pushing herself to explore new processes, techniques and supports. Kim Miller drawing class

Guild of Bluffton Artists

"Technicolor," by Lynda Potter
Features the work of artist Lynda K. Potter during January. Potter works in watercolor and acrylic, often combining the two to create innovative mixed watermedia pieces. Her drippy, moody treatments of the buildings of Savannah and her hometown of Bluffton are highly sought after by collectors, as are her loose, quirky still lifes and florals. Potter is equally well-known as a teacher of her discipline, guiding students of all proficiencies to find their way to a higher level in their work. She teaches classes and workshops in Savannah, Bluffton and on Hilton Head Island.

"Culture Shock" at SCAD's Red Gallery
The Savannah College of Art and Design presents "Culture Shock" through Feb. 3 at the Red Gallery, 201 E. Broughton St. "Culture Shock" celebrates American popular culture and nostalgia through portraits of legendary people, images of memorable consumer products and other elements of multigenerational iconography.
"Culture Shock" features works by such well-known artists as Charles Bell, Mark Bennett, Tom Blackwell, Audrey Flack, William Gottlieb, Damien Hirst, Robert Indiana, Chuck Jones, Ron Kleemann, David Levinthal, Robert Rauschenberg, Kenny Scharf, Andy Warhol and cartoonists Hanna-Barbera, among others. The reception for "Culture Shock" will be featured as part of the Gallery Hop on Jan. 9, 5-7 p.m.
Landings Art Association
The Jan. 21 meeting will feature Marbeth Shay, owner of RAF Gallery, who will speak on "Art Glass - Emerging vs. Established Artists." The meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Skidaway Presbyterian Church. Non-members are welcome. There is a $3 fee.
Zola Delburn art classes
Savannah painter Zola Delburn, best known for her recent paintings and photographs of Mrs. Wilkes Boarding House, has begun a series of painting classes, Aimed at beginning and intermediate students who wish to paint in acrylics or water-based oils, the classes offer small numbers of students and individualized attention. Chroma Gallery
Chroma Gallery is currently featuring the work of Danielle Lamberson. A recent MFA graduate in painting, Danielle explores nature with an exuberant, contemporary stroke. Her large pieces awe the viewer, while the small works provide an intimate glimpse of her detail. THE DOLPHIN AND THE MERMAID

"A Tribute to Poe," by Rebecca Kahrs Willis, watercolor
Overlooking the scenic Intercoastal Waterway in Thunderbolt, this gallery has a contemporary coastal theme, featuring the works of local artists Robert Isley, Rebecca Kahrs Willis, Kim Miller, Jon Nelson and Jo Gabeler. Also featured are fine craft pieces and glass works by Isabella Davis and Greg McDonald. The Art School

Rebecca Kahrs Willis 'One to Watch'

Savannah artist and watercolor teacher Rebecca Kahrs Willis was selected for WatercolorMagic magazine's "One to Watch" in its 2003 Yearbook. The artist and her husband, Troy, own The Dolphin and the Mermaid Gallery in Thunderlbolt and Willis is featured this month at Gallery 209.
