Hilton Head Art League sponsors Student ArtReach 2003

The Hilton Head Art League is sponsoring its annual Student ArtReach, an exhibition of artwork by local high school students. An opening reception will be held Jan. 9, 5-7 p.m., at the Art League Gallery in Pineland Station. The exhibition will run through Jan. 18.

"The annual Student ArtReach program is one the students really look forward to each year," says Kathryn Ramseur-Riley, an art teacher at Hilton Head Preparatory School.

"Students are excited about being able to show their work in a venue outside the school, " she adds.

This year's postcard design announcing the show is the work of Cara Ann Alanga, a senior at Hilton Head Prep. He work is entitled, "Profile."

Diane Bass, chair of the Art League's Education Committee points out that the Art League is eager to encourage the work of young artists.

"The annual display of artwork by our local young artists is one way in which we support art education in the community," says Bass.

In addition, the League offers an annual scholarship to qualified students moving on to studies in the visual arts. Applications for these scholarships are now available and can be acquired by calling Bass at (843) 342-6852.

The Art League will be also present work by its member artists. Art League members offer original, fine art, including paintings in all mediums, fine quality prints, ceramics, sculpture, photography, collages, and a variety of note cards and jewelry.

The Art League is a not-for-profit membership organization dedicated to promoting the visual arts in the community and enhancing the art skills of its members. It operates a volunteer managed gallery for the display and sale of work by Art League members. The Gallery is located at Pineland Station, suite 207, and is open Monday-Saturday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.
