York W. Bailey Museum will showcase work of James Denmark

As a part of the Penn Center's 14th anniversary celebration, a retrospective of the art of James Denmark will be presented at the York W. Bailey Museum at Penn Center.
A preview reception, silent auction and discussion by the artist will be held on Jan. 11, 6-8:3 0 p.m. Admission is $25. Tickets are available at Penn Center and the Arts Council of Beaufort County at USCB. The exhibit will be open to the public Jan. 13- Feb. 28. For further information, call (843) 838-2432.
Denmark earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University. After college, he moved to Brooklyn to begin his career as an art teacher in the public school system.
In 1976, Denmark earned a Master of Fine Arts Degree at the Pratt Institute of Fine Arts in New York where he was heavily influenced by the abstract expressionists and admired such mainstream artists as Jackson Pollock, Clifford Still and William deKooning.
Galleries and collectors worldwide consistently seek his collages, watercolors, woodcuts and reproductions. He has had over 60 one-man exhibitions and has participated in a number of group shows. His works may be found in New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art as well as in private and corporate collections in this country, as well as in Mexico, South America, Europe, Japan and Africa. Denmark recently relocated to Yemassee, S.C., where he lives and works.
