"Wintry Afternoon," by Joan Marion Grolimond
Hilton Head Island, S.C.
"Colors of Creation" is the new photography exhibition opening at the Hilton Head Art League Gallery in Pineland Station.
Joan Marion Grolimond is the artist whose photographs are featured. An opening reception will be held Jan. 21 from 5-7 p.m. The show will run through Feb. 15.
Grolimond hails from western Canada and now lives part of the year in Montreal and winters on Hilton Head Island with her husband, Andre. She owned her first camera, a Brownie, at the age of 5 but honed her skills with classes at Concordia University, the Fort Lauderdale Art Institute and the Winona School of Photography.
When Grolimond had her own black and white darkroom, she ventured into commercial art, photographing horses. Later, she had a portrait studio in Montreal. Now, nature photography is her primary interest. She photographs in various parts of the world, particularly Europe and Africa. Her exhibition delights viewers with photography inspired by her travels.
"Photography is a way of keeping beautiful images, not only on the inner eye," says Grolimond, "but also for one's viewing pleasure. What can be lovelier than the colors of creation," she adds.
To experience the colors of creation as seen by Joan Grolimond, visit the Hilton Head Art League Gallery Monday-Saturday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m.
In addition to the featured photographs, the Art League is showing the work of more than 100 of its member artists, in all mediums.
