"Still Stones" an art exhibit by needlework and acrylic artist Molada Madison, continues through Aug. 10 at York W. Bailey Museum at Penn Center. The project combines literature and visual art and denotes the essence of black men.
Madison is a mixed medium artist who works with embroidery and painting on fabric. She has shown in and around Beaufort County, as well as Florida and Chicago.
" 'Still Stones' talks about the peace, as well as the state of being, of black men. They are peaceful by nature and they are still stones, meaning they still possess a strength and resilience only a man who has survived slavery, wars and, in some cases, almost total decimation can claim," Madison explains. "I wanted to show a glimpse of what is secretive and ancient through art and through words."
