Multiple openings, live music kick off summer exhibits
"Clean and Sober" will feature 30 large-scale paintings being exhibited in two different locations. Half of the work will be shown at Gallery 28 and the other half will be in our alternative space at 2424 1/2 Drayton St. The two artists' work will be shown together in both venues to highlight the differences in the two bodies of work.
Thrush's work takes its strength from the use of appropriated images juxtaposed together to create a narrative. Some are painted in a highly realistic manner, which resembles advertising or commercial illustrations for McDonalds and Sunbeam Bread, to name a couple. His work is from the family of the pop artists such as Warhol, Scharf and Liechtenstein.
Jesser, a house painter by trade, has taken a new approach to abstract paintings by using raw wood panels and incorporating wood stains and regular house paint as his medium, creating these beautiful and often playful landscapes. His work seems to be a mix of Miro and the hard edge abstract painters. Both bodies of work are very colorful and will prove to be a compliment to each other.
