Betty Skinner pastel is best of show at The Landings

More than 700 art enthusiasts viewed 175 works of art - paintings, sculpture, woodcarving, photographs and ceramics - at the annual show and competition of the Landing Art Association.

A two-hour reception was held May 13 at St. Peter's Episcopal Church to honor winners and show the artists' work.

Mildred Huie Wilcox, owner of St. Simons Island's Left Bank Art Gallery, and Jack A. Morris Jr., of Jack Morris Gallery on Hilton Head Island, judged the show in both professional and non-professional categories.

Winners included:

Professional Oil Painting: First, Martha Sanders, "Portrait;" second, Dick Pope, "Trees in Moonlight;" third, Sue Bird, "Landscape with Buildings."
