Multi-talented Mary E. Adams exhibiting this month at Hospice Savannah Gallery

Crabber on the Dock

"Crabbber on the Dock," by Mary E. Adams is among the images she will be exhibiting at Hospice Savannah Gallery. Adams began her study in oils with the noted Georgia artist Augusta Oelschig in 1977 and has also filled a variety of creative posts throughout her long career.

Mary E. Adams, a native of Savannah, will be featured March 5-31. There will be an opening reception March 5 from 5: 30-7:30 p.m. Adams will donate 20 percent of the proceeds from any work sold at the Gallery to Hospice Savannah.

Adams began her study in oils with the noted Georgia artist Augusta Oelschig in 1977. She has also studied various media with noted artist Chen Yefei, Nelson Shanks, and Gustav Rehberger in New York. She is a life member of The Art Students League of New York where she studied from 1985-1998 and where she was involved with theatre projects on and off Broadway.

Adams has had three one-person showings in New York, several in Savannah and has participated in group showings in Connecticut. In 1983, she illustrated a book published by William Morrow and Company, "The Course of True Love: A Chronicle of Modern Romance by Jonathan Stone." Her most familiar works of the low country area are "Polk's Market," a sold out limited edition print and "Low Tide," a view of the old public dock on the Back River at Tybee. The original oil will be on display during her upcoming show at Hospice House.

In recent years, Ms. Adams has painted chiefly by commission and has been working on illustrations for several children's books, some of which she wrote as well. She is working with The Foundation for Children of Difference in New York City toward the publication of The Story of "Little Luanne" by Lisa Abelow Hedley, who was recently nominated for an Emmy for her HBO special on dwarfism, which aired last spring.

The show at Hospice House in March will include examples of watercolors, oils, pastels and sculpture done over the past 20 years. The artist feels very close to Hospice Savannah because of its immeasurable help during her mother's final illness this fall. Adams divides her time between Tybee Island and Washington, Conn.

Hospice Savannah is located at 1352 Eisenhower Dr. For more information, call (912) 355-2289.
